How to use the Height Weight Chart tool

The height and weight chart can help you understand if you have the correct height or weight – for health reasons, not as a concept of beauty. For all medical professionals, this tool can help understand:

  • Development and growth in childhood

Usually when people go in for their regular checkups, the doctor that they go to checks their height and their weight. The applicability of these height-weight charts is more in adults as these measurements are standardized for fully grown men and women of different heights. So, in adults, these standards are less prone to variation.

These data sets are known as percentiles and the 50th percentile on every chart shows the average value for any group that you’re trying to get a value for. Any value above 50 is higher than the average, and a lesser value is lower than the average.

If a bodybuilder were to use the chart, then it would be likely to show results as overweight or even obese. This result would not be correct and it highlights the downfall of this chart: the lack of fat percentage.

If a child’s head is unusually small, then it can show that a child has a brain that is developing slowly. On the other hand, if a head is unusually large then their head-to-body ratio might indicate that their brain has retained fluid.
